Dark stone looks

Dark surfaces use less area but carry the strongest impression. They work best on one focal surface, not across a whole kitchen.

A contextual kitchen photograph: the surface reads differently across a wide island than on a small sample.

Black and dark grey show dust and fingerprints more clearly than white, and matte surfaces show water marks. If you use one on a worktop, keep a dry cloth near the sink.

Lighting decides whether a dark surface works. In a room with no daylight, matte black loses depth and reads as a flat panel.

Choosing between similar looks

Compare on a panel the same size as the finished work. A look that is quiet on a small sample can look busy on a three metre island, and the reverse is also true.

Watch the direction of the light as well: veining that looks soft facing a window can read strongly on the opposite wall.

Worktop or wall

A dark surface behaves differently on a horizontal and a vertical panel. On a wall the light comes from the side and the veining reads; on a worktop it comes from above, and what you see is reflection and water marks.

If only one dark surface is used, choose either the wall or the island, not both. Two dark panels in a small room leave neither with focus.

What to bring when you come to see slabs

Bring a plan with finished dimensions, not an estimate. Worktop length, depth, sink position and splashback height decide the slab count and the cut direction, and all of them can be worked out during the visit.

Bring a sample of the cabinet or floor that is already installed, as a photo or a physical piece. Screens shift colour, and a look that matches on a phone often changes next to a real material.

If possible, come at a time when the light is close to the room: morning for an east facing kitchen, late afternoon for a west facing one.

FAQ

Buyer questions

Short answers for buyers comparing looks, formats and prices.

Which looks are in dark stone looks?

The looks grouped here share a base colour and a veining character, so they can be combined in one room without looking random.

Are all looks available in one size?

No. Each look is produced in particular formats and thicknesses, and not every combination is available at the same time. Confirm the size before committing to the look.

How do I choose between similar looks?

Compare the actual slabs side by side, not photographs. Differences that disappear on screen usually show up under room lighting.

Can two looks be used in one kitchen?

Yes, with one rule: one strongly veined look for the focal surface, one calm look for everything else. Two strongly veined surfaces usually cancel each other out.

Do all looks in this group cost the same?

Not necessarily. Price follows format, thickness and batch. The range for each look is on its product page.
